In May of 2018, the Community Action Council of Howard County (CAC) entered into a partnership with Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH). As leaders in the practice and promotion of integrative health and well-being, MUIH was a natural fit to assist with the development and delivery of the Healthy Families, Healthy Children program (HFHC), which is offered to Head Start and Pre-K students, their families and staff.  HFHC provides a whole health approach to support good nutritional, physical and mental health habits.  With a team of dedicated administrators, experienced students, and graduates, MUIH enriches the experience of our students and families while carrying out their vision of leading a global transformation of health and wellness through a focus on the interconnectedness of mind, body and spirit.

The partnership between CAC and MUIH leverages opportunities that are beneficial for both organizations. MUIH students and graduates can be found in Head Start and Pre-K classrooms sharing their knowledge and overseeing the HFHC classroom curriculum, which supports developing strong minds and bodies through healthy eating.  Additionally, MUIH students and graduates with the guidance of Eleonora Gafton, plan and deliver HFHC Family Engagement Nights where they can be seen instructing students and families on everything from how to get a more restful night sleep to developing mindful eating practices. “One of the most exciting aspects of our partnership with CAC is the ability give our students and graduates hands-on-experience in developing and delivering whole health content to some of our communities’ youngest students. This partnership is an opportunity for them to take their training and expertise out of an educational setting and into the community where it can have the greatest impact.”- Marc Levin, President MUIH.
