January is National Hot Tea Month

Drink your tea slowly and reverently as if it is the axis on which the world revolves—slowly, evenly, without rushing toward the future.
Live the actual moment.
Only this moment is life.
—Thich Nhat Hanh

Tea is one of the world’s oldest and healthiest drinks, with so many potential health benefits, researchers have yet to study them all. Tea is second only to water as the most widely consumed beverage on the planet. On any given day in the United States, about half the population is drinking tea, with about 3 billion gallons sipped in 2010.

An increasing body of research suggests that antioxidants and other potentially healthful ingredients in tea can lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, lower risk of breast, prostate, colon, lung, and ovarian cancers, protect against Type 2 diabetes and obesity, and improve mental alertness.

Here at MUIH, we have a tradition of welcoming first-time visitors with a warm greeting and a complimentary cup of tea. It’s our invitation to nourish and uplift yourself while you’re here and beyond.

We especially invite you to brew our Warm Up Tea winter blend, one of four organic, seasonal blends created by MUIH herbalists.

Warm-Up Tea contains five spicy, warming herbs (holy basil, lemon balm leaf, cinnamon chips, orange peel, and rosehips) to stimulate the circulation and maintain resistance through the cold winter months. Each ingredient contains special healthful properties:

Holy basil – Rich in eugenol, the main component of cloves. It has warming and antibacterial properties. Holy basil also calms the nerves and helps the body adjust to stress and anxiety.

Citrus peel – Contains essential oils and organic acids, which impart the familiar tingling, warming, and refreshing taste when taken as a tea. Like holy basil, citrus peel has antibacterial properties, and it stimulates the digestion and metabolism—a perfect combination for the holiday season.

Lemon balm – Enriches the flavor and adds antiviral properties to the Warm Up Tea winter blend formula.

Cinnamon – Warms the circulation and helps regulate glucose metabolism, while imparting delicious flavor.

Rose hips – Rich in vitamin C and bioflavonoids, antioxidants that work synergistically to strengthen tissues and help maintain resistance through winter.
