Christina Sax, Ph.D., Appointed Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

Fri. June 03, 2016

Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH) welcomes Christina Sax, Ph.D., as the new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

“After a long yet rewarding national search, Dr. Sax quickly rose to the top of the candidate pool, impressing the search committee, executive leadership, and all with whom she came into contact. Her broad base of experience, entrepreneurial spirit, and open-minded attitude positions her well to be successful in this critical leadership role at MUIH. Her deep commitment to our values and foundational principles will ensure that our future progress aligns with our mission and vision,” said Frank Vitale, President and CEO at MUIH.

Dr. Sax comes to MUIH from Shippensburg University where she has been for nine years, serving currently as Associate Provost and Dean of Academic Outreach and Innovation and, previously, Dean of Extended Studies. She spent 10 years at the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) where her roles included Academic Director of Natural Sciences; Assistant Dean of Social, Behavioral, Natural, and Mathematical Sciences; and Interim Senior Associate Dean.

Dr. Sax received her Ph.D. in Human Genetics from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University and her B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Rochester. She has more than 25 years of progressive experience as a researcher at the National Institutes for Health and as an academic faculty member and administrator.

Dr. Sax’s impressive background in academic teaching and leadership, in research, and in business development will serve MUIH and its community well. In addition, Dr. Sax has been very clear about her commitment to excellence in our academic programs, providing a positive student experience, ongoing faculty development and support, and our expanding research agenda.

“I am confident that with the leadership of our new Provost and the continued contributions of our faculty, administration, staff and students, we will truly advance our mission and make a palpable impact on healthcare in the nation. I look forward to partnering with such a strategic and prudent thinker as Dr. Sax. I believe she will help shape the direction of the University for years to come,” said Vitale.
